A wagering requirement (also called a playthrough requirement or rollover) is the amount you must bet before you can withdraw money associated with a betting or casino bonus.
For example:
- You deposit $100.
- The betting site gives you a $100 bonus.
- The bonus has a 10× wagering requirement.
Depending on the terms, this could mean:
- Bonus only: You must place $1,000 in qualifying bets (10 × $100 bonus).
- Deposit + bonus: You must place $2,000 in qualifying bets (10 × ($100 deposit + $100 bonus)).
Placing those bets doesn't mean you'll spend exactly that amount—you can win or lose along the way. The requirement is based on the total value of qualifying wagers, not your net profit or loss.
There are often additional conditions, such as:
- Only certain sports, games, or bet types count toward the requirement.
- Bets may need to meet minimum odds (for example, decimal odds of 1.50 or higher).
- Some wagers may count only partially (e.g., 50%) or not at all.
- You usually must complete the wagering requirement within a specified time period, such as 7, 30, or 90 days.
As a simple example:
- You receive a $50 bonus with a 20× bonus wagering requirement.
- You need to make $1,000 worth of qualifying bets before the bonus (and sometimes any winnings from it) becomes eligible for withdrawal.
Before accepting a bonus, it's worth checking:
- What amount the multiplier applies to (bonus only, or deposit + bonus).
- Which bets qualify.
- Any minimum odds or stake requirements.
- The deadline for completing the wagering requirement.
- Whether winnings are capped or subject to other withdrawal restrictions.
These details can make two bonuses with the same advertised amount very different in value.
