Introduction (5 minutes)
- Welcome children with a greeting song.
- Introduce the colours using coloured cards.
- Ask questions such as:
- "Can you find something red?"
- "What colour is your shirt?"
Main Activities (20–25 minutes)
1. Colour Hunt (10 minutes)
- Place coloured objects around the room.
- Call out a colour and invite children to find an object that matches.
- Encourage children to say the colour aloud.
2. Colour Sorting (5–7 minutes)
- Provide mixed coloured pom-poms, blocks, or counters.
- Children sort them into matching coloured bowls or onto coloured paper.
3. Colour Art (8–10 minutes)
- Children draw a picture using the featured colours.
- Encourage them to talk about the colours they are using.
- Praise effort and colour recognition rather than artistic outcome.
Group Time (5 minutes)
Read a short book about colours or sing a colour song, such as:
- "I Can Sing a Rainbow"
- "The Colour Song"
Pause to ask:
- "What colour did you see?"
- "Which colour is your favourite?"
Conclusion (5 minutes)
Review the colours together by holding up colour cards and asking children to name them. End with a goodbye song.
Assessment
Observe whether children can:
- Name at least two or more colours.
- Match objects to the correct colour.
- Participate in songs and activities.
- Use colour words during play.
Extension Activities
- Colour mixing with washable paint (red + yellow = orange, etc.).
- Build towers with coloured blocks.
- Make a simple colour collage using magazine cut-outs.
